I love reading crime thrillers as well as writing them. My bookshelves and Kindle are stacked with fabulous fiction waiting to be read – British writers like Ruth Rendell and Kate Atkinson, as well as books from further afield. I have a couple of John Grisham’s, for instance. They’re all writers I’m proud to call role models and influences. And yet – for the times when there’s but a few precious minutes to indulge in escapism – only a short story will do.
Short stories are the ideal entertainment in today’s fast-moving, time-poor world, fitting naturally into the cracks and corners of our lives. Nothing can beat the intensity of emotion evoked by a good short story, even with only five minutes to read it.
If you haven’t already signed up for my (infrequent) newsletter, do it now – you’ll receive a free e-book, Something In The City, containing six sparkling short stories. You can sign up here, then grab a coffee or glass of wine, and enjoy!
I bet you’ll love these short story collections too – all by writers I really rate:
Judy Darley’s Remember Me To The Bees is an homage to the buzzing little honeymakers – each tale features one. Sometimes sweet, sometimes dark and always a good read…
Heide Goody and Iain Grant are offering Satan’s Shorts, a spin-off from their successful Clovenhoof comic fantasy, for free! What’s not to like?
A Dark Imagined Bristol shows the sinister side of Britain’s premier party city. I contributed a couple of stories (although not as AA Abbott) – can you guess which they are?
Last but not least – do read The Gap – it’s free, it’s here, and it’s an entertaining taster for my new full-length crime thriller The Bride’s Trail!
